The High Commissioner cables: | Russian official: Haiicz has been cup tured by our troops, and we have advanced westward to the left bank of Lornhica. On the Bogoroabhan front we advanced westward, taking 2000 prisoners and 30 gains. HALICZ BRIDGEHEAD MENACED. PETROGRAD, July 10. The Austro-German frpnt, between Haiicz and the Carpathians, has been broken. The Russians in the neighbourhood of the Dneister, have turned Haiicz from the south-south.-west and now menace Haiicz bridgehead. FRANCO-BRITISH ARTILLERY-AS-SISTING. AMSTERDAM, July 10. The "Vossiches Zeitung's" correspondent in Galicia, describing the latest fighting, says that the Russian heavy artillery has been tremendously v reinforced by British and French artillery and artillerymen. One heavy gun near Brzezany is 45 centimetres calibre. 14,000 PRISONERS IN SIX DAYS. PETROGRAD, July 10. Between July 2nd and Bth, General Korniloff took 14,000 prisoners and 50 guns, of which twelve were heavy. THE BRZEZANY OPERATIONS 'LONDON, July 10. Heavy rains and mud are hindering Russian operations at Brzezany, but the offensive is developing on a large scale. Strong activity has spread along a front of 140 miles to the south-west. RUSSIANS DRIVING ENEMY BACK LONDON, July 10. Wireless Russian official: General Korniloff continued Sis offensive n the direction of Dolin. There were sanguinary battles on the roads to-! wards Haiicz, alao in the region of the villages of Huciska, Pacykov, and Pavelece. Bayonet fighting at Pavelce resulted in the enemy's complete rout. We occupied the villages of Victor-' ov, Majdan, and Pacykov, and reached the village of Bukovica. The enemy retreated to the river Lomnica.
The Russians showed such daring in their attacks during the days' offensive that they penetrated the enemy's position to a depth of ten versts. GERMANS REPORT INCREASED ACTIVITY. LONDON, July 10. Fighting activity has increased near Riga, Dvinsk and Smorgen. The Russians are inactive between the Strypa and the Nneister. The fighting north-west of Stanislau resulted in our withdrawal behind Lukowica (?Lomnica) stream. HALICZ EVACUATION EXPECTED. PETROGRAD, July 10. Korniloff's cavalry, with Cossacks, are following up General Kirbae-h's rehiring .army southwards of Haßicfc. They forced the river Lukovitza, which runs parallel with the river Lukva. The western bank of the Lukva dominates the wooded eastern bank, bupt it is considered unlikely that the demoralised enemy will be able to concentrate sufficient troops to prevent the Russians passing the river fci continuance of the advance in the direction of Dovina. The cooperation of the Seventh and Eleventh armies northward of Halicz with the Eight to the southwards, has been hitherto like elo~ckwork. A military article points out that the success of the Eighth army separates Bothmer's army from Kirbach's third Austrian, which are in contact between Halicz and Stanislau. The writer anticipates the evacuation of Halicz, which is not a fortress, but only a strong bridgehead protecting Bothmer's positions from the east and south-east.
