MEAT IN LONDON.
DISPOSAL OF SURPLUS. "NO UNDUE PROFIT." *'ls there any ground for the suspicion that the meat rings get hold of the surplus meat over and above what the Imperial Government requires, and sell .it at fancy prices?" was a question put to the Prime Minister yesterday. "I will take an early opportunity of explaining this matter in the House/' replied Mr Massey, "but I may say here that the surplus meat is divided amongst men in the trade—keen businessmen, who are not working with the j ring, but who, in fact, arc opposed to ; it. They are not making more than a small income out of the business and there are no undue profits. The profits they are making, when compared in | regard to- the proportion of their income are smaller than those made before the war.
