The Duke of Teck becomes Marquis of Cambridge, Alexander BattenBurg becomes Marquis of Carisbrooke, the family name of Battenburg becomes Mount-Batten, after the headland overlooking Plymouth harbour. The earldom of Medina is named after a river in the Isle of Wight.
A FIVE TO ONE CHANCE.
OF ENDING WAR THIS YEAR
LONDON, June 26
Lloyd's underwriters, for the payment of a hundred guineas if the war be in progress at the end of 1917, was demanding 80gns, the premium proportionately decreasing to 30gns at the end of 1918.
This form of insurance, which is not permissible here, really amounts to a straightout gamble on the length of the war. The offer practically means that according to Lloyd's the chance of ending the war this year is five to one against, the odds gradually lengthening.
RAMSAY MACDONALD'S TRIP.
EMBARGO WITHDRAWN.
LONDON, June 26
The executive of the Seamen and Firemen's Union passed a motion recommending that the embargo on Mr. Ramsay MacDonald and his companions going to Russia be removed, now that the purpose is achieved of drawing attention to the sufferings of British seamen during the war.
