SUBMARINE CAMPAIGN.

NO SOVEREIGN REMEDY. LONDON, June 21. The latest figures reveal that the submarine menace is unabated. No analysis of the number of arrivals and sailings can minimise the essential gravity of the situation. So far as can be judged the German U-boat strength has not yet been substantially reduced. Although Germany boasts of turning out submarines faster than Ave are able to destroy them may be exaggerated, the fact remains that no sovereign method of counter-attacking the submarines -has yet been evolved. Nevertheless there is reason to believe that we are making progress. Much expert knowledge is now being devoted to the problem. NORWEGIAN STEAMER TORPEDOED. Received 10.25 a.m. COPENHAGEN, June 21. The Norwegian steamer Cederic has been torpedoed. Ten of the crew were rescued and thirteen are missing. |
