NEW ZEALAND NURSES ’ MEMORIAL FUND

A DOMINION APPEAL. " Among the philanthropic associations of the Dominion there is none which has within the scope of its benevolence the granting of assistance to trained nurses who, through sickness or misfortune, find themselves in straitened circumstances and unable to keep themselves in even moderate comfort, it may be in the closing years of a life which has been devoted to the care of others. There has in recent years been such a wide development of nursing work j through the increasing number of private hospitals and the continual expansion of the public hospitals of the Dominion, that trained nurses are now a very numerous class, and it has been felt by medical men and others who re- | cognise the trying nature of the nurses’ j life, and the voluable services she renders to the sick, that the time has j arrived Avhen something practical [ should bo done to show the commonity’s appreciation of those services and | their desire to render assistance to | nurses who are in need of help. It has been considered by those who have watched with pride the self-sacrificing spirit with which trained nurses from New Zealand have cheerfully taken up duty in the hospital ships which have i left our shores and in the military | camps in Egypt and France —some of ) whom have lost their lives in their de- | votion to duty—that no more fitting ! memorial to their patriotic spirit could | be established than the creation of a j fund, the income from which would be I devoted to the relief of trained nurses : who, through sickness, old ago, or mis- | fortune require help. Mrs. K. J. j Boyd, Taihape, is a member of the j Wellington Preliminary Committee, and j the following donations have been al- . ready been handed to her for the
