TAIHAPE DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL
To the Editor.
Sir—ln your yesterday's issue I noticed a report of an enquiry held by the Taihape School Oommitt-ee, and
was grieved eo tirnk any man could have caused a girl in her teens to go through such a pamf.il ordeal without first being certain his accusations
were correct, instead v f just taking the word of a child of seven years for it. Having been informed on good authority that, in bis evidence, Mr, Stent stateK my child had also been ill-treated by his teacher, I take thig| opportunity vo say shut jf Mr. Stcnfl did make such" a statement it was absolutely contrary to facts. My boy is naturally high-spirited, and therefore likely to give trouble in his class, and I think the fact that he has never complained of being harshly treated,, is fond of his mistress, likes going to school, and is making very satisfac* tory progress in his school work, shows that his teacher must have a great deal of patience, tact and ability. I consider we are extremely fortunate in having such a painstaking and conscientious staff of teachers as those who are teaching our children at the Taihape District High School, Thanking you in anticipation,—l am, etc.,
JOHN G. OLDHAM.
