JANINA OCCUPIED BY ITALIANS. Received 10.20. LONDON, June 11. Neutral advices from Athens state that the Italian cavalry have occupied Janina without resistance, and the Greek authorities withdrew. The Gov'ernment is protesting. (Janina is a< town of 20,000 inhabitants, situated on the Lake of the same name in Albania.) ON THE SEA. OSTEND BADLY SMASHED. LONDON, June 10. The Adimalty announces it,hat the latest Reconnaissance at Ostend shows the removal of all large shipping. Two destroyers are reported as ,being towed to Zeebrugge. Probably they arc those damaged during the bombardment. The harbour appears deserted. IN CANADA CONSCRIPTION IN CANADA. BOUND TO BE CARRIED. Received 9.20. NEW YORK:, June 11. The New York Tribune’s Ottawa correspondent says it may now be stated positively that the Conscription Bill will pass through the House, although it may take a month, as the supporters of Sir R.‘ L. Borden can carry any war measure. Every member and huge crowds are expected when the House resumes tc-raorrow. While Sir Wilfred Laurier is known to be willing to drop the Liberal leadership, it is extremely doubtful if his followers will allow him to. There is no outstanding Liberal figure commanding such, general support as Sir Wilfred Laurier. An election is now improbable. CONTROLLING GRAIN MARKET. DRASTIC ACTION IN CANADA.

The Government has appointed a Grain Commission, endowed with drastic powers, to co-operate with the United States in the marketing and fixing prices of grain. The Commission will be empowered to seize grain elevators, fix the purchase price, and also to negotiate with the British Government. INCIDENTS Op THE WAR. AUSTRALIANS’ TERRIBLE EXPERIENCES. LONDON, June 10. Two Australians escaped from the Black Hole of Lille. Describing the state of the old underground fdrt. they say there was not sufficient room to enable all to lie down. They were only allowed out for five minutes daily. They were supplied with a limited quantity of nauseating black coffee, which they had to drink out of helmets. Everyone was weak with hunger. The guards refused to give water. Later the party were taken to Manqnion, a thirty-six hours’ journey, without food. On arrival they ate grass and dandelions. Rain and cold wore continuous, but the prisoners were without blankets the whole time.
