THEBE STARS
The appealing humanity of Pinero's favourite romance of London life, “Sweet Lavender,” has established its popularity on the screen as it has on the legitimate stage. This attraction, enhanced by the appearance of the popular English actor, Henry Ainley, is the feature of this week’s programme at the Three Stars Theatre. The immense popularity of “Sweet Lavender” is proved bp the fact that it has been translated into the language of many other nations, and so strongly lined is the touch of humanity that the genius of Pinero has made the basis of the story that even the change of tongue has not diminshed its power of appeal. “Sweet Lavender” is supported by an interesting variety of topics, including a side-splitting Keystone comedy entitled “The Judge.” EVERYBODY'S.
With all the glamour and thrill and fascination of the circus environment. “Peg O’ the Ring” made, her first bow to an expectant gathering at Everybody's last night. Pretty Peg (Lucille Love, alias Grace Cunnard), is going to capture all hearts. Scenes of circus life have of course been seen often enough on the screen, but with what success? Strict atention to detail there may have been, but most important of all “atmosphere” has often been lacking. In ’ ’Peg 0 ’ the Ring,’ ’ so realistic and natural is the atmosphere, wo get carried away and forget that it is only a picture at which we gaze, with such rapt attention; surely those acrobats in their clever trapeze act are actually there in the llesh; and that clown; are his antics which make us rock with laughter but mere phantoms of the real thing? Yes, but therein lies the secret of why the atmosphere is so convincing. The whole, story is a picturisation of ‘ ‘the real "thing. ’ ’ In their quest for realism T.A. had camera men touring America and obtaining photographs of actual performances and scenes in the daily life of the kings and queens of the ring. All the large circuses were visited and many of the most daring acts and thrilling spectacles enacted in America to-day are faithfully portrayed in this series taken from real life. In conjunction with “Peg O’ the Ring” a big Bluebird feature, “The Flirt.” is also shown. To-morrow’s programme will be headed by a Famous Players production, “The Lost Bridegroom.”
