AN INSANITARY MENACE.

To the Editor.

Sir,—l notice that the stock auctioneers are calling for tenders to cement the floors of their cattle yards. I, and others, are wondering now long the Borough Council and the Health Deartment ore going to tolerate this nuisance in the borough, it may be said that the concreting of the yards will do away with the insanitary nuisance, but no' one will be fooled into the idea that all offensive matter is going to disappear as if by magic. Within the boundaries of a small borough ,like Taihape is.n'o: place for stock sale yards, more especially as everybody knows that the town is soon to be a leading stock sale centre. Other auctioneers have signified their intention to open in Taihape, and instead of the stock yard nuisance being perpetuated in the borough the yards should be moved holus bolus to a much more convenient spot on the flat just over the first bridge on the Winiata Eoad. There is ample room there for many years to come. The removal would not involve the stock auctioneering companies in any undue outlay, and stock could approach from all directions without, destroying the town streets and rendering them dangerous and insanitary. A few days ago it was quite impossible for women to get along the road owing to mobs of cattle, and I think, sir, you might take a hand in removing what must appeal to you us a great nuisance from more than one point of view. The yards in the borough must be a nuisance to ratepayers who live near them both from the allnight long bellowing of cattle and from

a health view. If you ean soc with rac, Sir, I hope you will do something to help in removing this long-standing menace to comfort, safety and health to a more convenient place outside the borough.—l am, etc.,

LONG SUFFERER
