THE FREEZING WORKS SOCIAL.

(Report by a Workman)

The Otaihape Freezing Works employees’ first annual social and dance, held in O’Connor’s Hall, Taihape, on May 11th, under the auspices of the Otaihape Freezing Works employees, was a success, which we thank the many townspeople who co-operated so heartily with the Working CofWiittce. Considering that only four days were available for arranging the function the attendance of some fifty couples was very gratifying to those who worked for success.

Mr. and Mrs Pitt, Mrs. Smith, prizegivers: Mr and Mrs McConchie, musicians: and Mr. A. McGuire, M.C., arc deserving of thanks for excellent services rendered.

M,r. E. chairman pf the Freezing Works Employees’ Union, delivered a brief address, which was frequently applauded, dealing chiefly with labour’s mission and leading up to the claim that all powers and authorities were being forced to admit that the future belonged to Labour. On behalf of the Union he expressed the hope of seeing a strong Labour sentiment developcd in the Taihape district, and that by the next annual social and dance the present and only existing union, apart from the T.W.E. Union, the A.SK. Servants (or workers as they desired to Inf known by) and other unions be formed would come together and hold a grand Labour gathering; and that Labour would also organise an annual picnic , especially for women and children ■ in the district.

A former president of the - A.&E.S, (workers) endorsed the chairman's remarks, and called for three cheers for Labour and the chairman, which were heartily given. -y Altogether the evening will remain a mm eatable one and to the good name of unionism and the Labour movement.

No balance accuring ovqr expenses no donation is available towards the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board Funds.
