LUTHERAN SCHOOLS TAKEN OVER. Received 11.45 a.m. ADELAIDE, thhis day. The Government has announced its intention of taking over the Lutheran schools after the end of next month. AUSTRALIA'S WAR BILL. Received 11.45 a.m. : '" MELBOURNE, this day. Treasury returns show that exclusive of payments made to the Imperial Government on behalf of the Commonwealth the Australian war expenditure is four millions monthly. The total cost of the war this year is approximately £78,300,000 and the amount owing to the Imperial Government for war disbursements is £32,000,000.
A FACTORY EXPLOSION. CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE DONE. Reeeived 11.45 a.m. LONDON, May 21. Official.—Lightning caused an explosion doing considerable damage in a small factory in Kent that is working for an Allied Government. Three persons were slightly burnt.
