ON THE FRENCH FRONT.

PARIS, May 2. A French communique reports: "Great reciprocal artillery firing occurred in the region of Chemin des Dames. On the Cerny-Huftebise-Cra-onne our machine-guns and grenades repulsed partial enemy attacks on our trenches. A violent artillery struggle occurred last night in the sectors Mont Cornillet, eSast of RVieims, Monthay, and the Champagne, with lively grenade fighting in the woods west of Monst Cornillet, In which we made progress. Our detachments penetrated the German lines at different points near Les Eparges. Our air squadrons on the night of April 30 bombed several railway stations and military establishments in the region of Laon, Vouxieres, and Rethel, causing fires.
