TAIHAPE FIRE BRIGADE.

The usual monthly meeting of the Fire Brigade was held last evening. Captain S. Eeid occupying the chair. Lieut. Adair, in a few well-chosen remarks congratulated Capt. Rcid on his election as a Borough Councillor. Captain Reid, in reply, said he would always do his best for the Borough, and would endeavour to secure the assistance of the Council and citizens in Fire Brigade matters. There were several things requiring attention that only experienced men could deal with.

It was decided to hold a series of weekly euchre parties and socials during the winter, and a strong committee was appointed to carry out the preliminary arrangements. The funds derived from the socials are to be devoted to the Brigade funds. It was decided that the actual out-of-pocket expenses (£2 10/) incurred by Captain Eeid in attending the Annual Canference at Balclutha be paid. An invitation was extended to the Press to attend all practices and meetings of th e Brigade.

A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
