GOLF NOTES.
Th e official opening of the TaihapQ Golf Club's season will take place on Thursday next, 3rd inst.
Commencing at 1.30 p.m., a putting competition for ladies and one for men will be held. An entrance fee of 6d will be charged, and a trophy will be presented to each winner. In ad> dition to the putting competitions a' mixed foursome will be held during the afternoon.
Messrs D. Neagle and S. B'eban will act as putting stewards, and Messrs J. Evans, W. Kelsall, and P. E. Wakeman as stewards of the foursomes. Afternoon tea will be provided by the Club, and visiting players, menu bers, intending members, and theii* friends are cordially invited to be present on opening day. At the annual meeting of the mem> bers of the Taihape Golf Club, the fol-
lowing office-bearers were elected for the ensuing year: Patron, Mr. R. W« Smith. M.P.; President, Mr. D. Neagle: vice-presidents, Messrs J. A* Champion, H. Hesketh, captain. Mr. W. Kelsall; hon secretary and treasurer. Mr. P. E. Wakeman; hon auditor, Mr. C. L. Dymock; committee:' Messrs G. Bray, S. Beban, J. Evans, W. J. Munro, A. M. Ryan. The prospects for the coming season are very promising, and already th e "membership has beed. considerably increased by the accession of a .number of nev"players. '*' The new piayers are always welcome, and beginners are assured of a pleasant and enjoyable winter's sport. It was decided at the annual meet-* ing that any player by payment of 10/ with his or her subscription nould be entered for all competitions during the season. The handsome Challenge Cup presented by Mr. S. Shergold was won by Mr. H. Hesketh, and was duly presented to the winner by the retiring president, Mr. P. E. Wakeman. The committe e has fixed the annual subscription for ladies at 10/ per season.
The local rule re fences has been deleted, and the following substituted: "That when playing through the green, a player whose bajl is lying* within two club's lengths of a dividing fence, shall be allowed to carry his ball back in as near a direct line as possible with the green and drop it over his shoulder without penalty."
Rule 3B was altered to read "A ball lying within two club's lengths of the green, if stymied, or the player be hampered by a post, may without penalty be lifted or dropped over the shoulder within a club's length of, but not nearer, the hole than its original lie."
Messrs D. Neagle, G. Bray and P. E. Wakesan were apointed green stewards for the season, and Messrs D. Neagle, W. Kelsall and Mr. P. E. Wakeman.

The members are greatly indebted to Mrs. Gillies, who provided afternoon tea last season, and it is hoped the same facilities will be again available this season.
Messrs H. Hesketh, A. D. N. Train, and W. Kelsall did good work in improving the shed, for which the mem« bers are grateful ,also the members of the working "bee which prepared the links for this season's play. After thorough investigation it" was decided it would b e in the best in* terest s of the club to shift No 1 tee in, the meantime.
It was decided that no charge be made for use of the ball-branding machine, but brands to be registered once at th e charge .of 1/. The following new members were duly elected: Messrs W. Fookes, G. Wheeler, H. P. Blackie, T. Bradley, J. Sellar, A. J. Joblin, W. J. Munro, E. Loader, H. O'Callaghan, F. Hintz, Mrs O'Callaghan and Miss L. O'Callaghan.
A sub-committee consisting of Mrs. Neagle, Mrs. Powell, Mrs. Collinson, and Miss Kennedy has been appoint ed to foster the interests of lady members of the club, and to make
suggestions or voice grievances &*- tfieir behalf.
