SOLDIER SETTLEMENT
To the Editor
Sir, —May I through your valued columns rectify the error that the local correspondent of the “Auckland Weekly News” has obviously fallen, into regarding the “Wairarapa discharged soldiers’ allotments. He says: “A returned Taihape soldier recently drew a section of land in the Wairarapa district under the Discharged Soldiers’ Land Settlement Act, 1915. It is stated that this land is entirely unfitted for occupation, and would keep a man poor for the rest of his life.” As a matter of fact, the section drawn by the Taihape man is a really good one, perhaps one of the best of the block of which there are several, and at the upset price per acre is better value than anything that can be procured in this locality. I venture to say, having personally inspected this block, that there will be many progressive farmers doing exceedingly well Tf worked by enterprising tenants. Thanking you for your valued space, lam, etc.,
GEORGE A. WHEELER.
