ON THE SEA.
TRANSPORT MINED. BATTALION Ol‘ TROOPS ABOARD. ALL LANDED SAFELY. Received 9.35. LONDON, March 29. The Press Bureau states that the tl'anspo‘l't Tylxdareus, with a battalion of the Middlcscx regiment aboalsd strucl-: a mine on February 9th, off Cape Aguihas (about one lhundncd miles east of the Cape of Good Hope) during a strong‘ south—oasterly gale, and began to settle after thecxplosion, the propellers showing; The men were paraded in perfect order; the rollpwas called, the order was given to stand easy, and the battalion sang. Two steamers were despatched to the rescue, and arrived half an hour later. Although faced with the probability of imminent death the troops maintaiined the same steadfast counage and discipline. The incident occurred in the vicinity where the Birkenhead was lost; Thanks to the devotion and perseverance of the captain, ofiicers, and engineers, the ship was saved, and reached Simonstou-'\1"1I under hen own steam. Two holds were flooded and another was leaking. The troops were landed safely. ‘ ' _ The King expressed his deep admiration of all ranks in npholding the Birk-en-hcad’s cherished traditions. -
REPRISALS FOR THE ASTURIA3. Received 11.30. LONDON, March 29. Newspapers announce that the Government have decided upon reprisals in connection with the torpedoing or th e hospital ship Asturias. The Acmiralty will make a statement to-day.
