LONDON MARKETS. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. WELLINGTON, Monday. The High Commissioner’s market report, dated London, March 24, is. as follows, quotations, unless otherwise specified, being average market prices on spot:—
All descriptions of frozen meat are in active demand owing to short supply. Only a small quantity under Governnment control has been released for home consumption each week. Quotations are: New Zealand mutton, 8 7-8 d; ewe mutton BJd; Argentine mutton, heavy-weight ITJd, light-weight Hid; New Zealand lamb 10d; Argentine lamb 13d; New Zealand and Argentine beef: No supplies are available. Pork, lid. The maximum prices for both butter and cheese has not been changed. They will remain in force until April 13. Lower prices are being quoted for colonial butters. Buyers are holding back, partly owing to th e uncertainty regarding the maximum prices. Quotations for butter are: New Zealand unsalited 204/ to 212/; salted, 210/ to 218/. Australian salted, 202/ to 208/; unsalted, 200/ to 205/. French, 212/ to 217/.
The cheese market continues firm. Canadian white and coloured 162/, English Cheddar 165/, Dutch Cheddar 150/, United States flats 160/. Hemp.—The market is firm at an advance. The supply falls short ot the demand. Quotations are normal. Good fair New Zealand £74, fair £7O; Government graded fair Manila £93, coarse £79. March to May shipment, good fair, New Zealand £72, fair £69; Government graded fair, Manila £93, coarse £77.
