TENNIS NOTES

On Saturday next an American tournament will be held ,on the Taihape tennis courts. The following pairs were drawn to contest the games on Saturday;—Mrs. Neagle and Dunlop, 12 points behind; Miss Spooner and R. Ongley, 6 behind; Miss Kennedy and W. J. Munro, 5 behind; Miss Gillette and M. Kirschberg, 5 behind; Miss L. O’Callaghan and Gamble, 3 behind; Miss Little and H. P. Blaekie scr; MiSs W. Spooner and H. O’Cal-lag-han ’scr; Mrs Cannons and F. Hintz, 3 points on; Mrs, Ongley and C. Nathan, 5 points; Mrs. Wakeman and Miss J. Kearins, 5 points; Mrs. O’Callaghan and L. O’Callaghan, 6 points; Miss J. Smith and Mr. Cannons, 8 points. Games will be 21 points up.

A nomination fee of one shilling per pair will be charged; the proceeds to go to the Plunket Garden Party.

To enable all games to be complete ed before dark play will commence at

2 p.m. sharp*; pairs not ready to compete will require to wait until next round. Saturday will be a general afternoon day, and ex-members and friends of players are cordially invited' to be

present. Intending players are extended a welcome to the courts, and such members are invited to use the courts from now until the commencement of next season free of charge. Any persons wishing to avail themselves of this offer are requested to inform the or members' of the committee, who will assist them as much as possible. It should be reembered that though the official season closes practically in April, the courts are playable right through the year, weather permitting. By the departure of Miss Bell from Taihape, tile club loses one of its most promising players. Miss Bell was a beginner this season, hut showed great improvement, and promised to develop into one of the club’s best lady players.
