~. FRENCH PROGRESS. ‘ SOMMEA CANAL FORGED AT TWO _ POINTS I \ -—-- - I _ LONDON, March 22. 1 A French communique states: North of Ham the situation is unchanged. Our light troops maintained contact with the enemy between Roupy and St. Quentin. We forced a passage this morning, eastsof Ham, at two points on the Somme canal. In the face of vigorous resistance we cleared the north and east banks of the canal and drove the enemy as far as the outskirts of Clastres and Montescourt. The enemy flooded this region. The majority of the villages before our lines are burning. In the region of St. Quentin we progressed north of Tergeier, on the Somme There were skirmishes in the valley of the Ailette. The enemy who are occupying the cast bank of the Crozat canal and the Ailettc, vigorously bombaxded our lines. ’ We considerably progressed north of Scissons, fighting several lively actions. The majority of the reconquered villages are ruined. East of the Mouse, the enemy launch--ed several attacks against our.iCalonne treriches. All failed.
