ST. PATRICK’S DAY SPORTS

A meeting of the St. Patrick’s Day Sports Committee was held last night, those present being Messrs H. O’Callaghan (in chair), T. Shout, S. G. Peyton, E. McLaughlan, S. Dunbar, D. Neagle, W. Kelsall, A. J. Joblin, W. J. Munro, A. M. Ryan, and A. D. N. Train. Mr. F. Anderson, of Gonville, Wanganui, advised that in all probability he would act as judge of horse events at the sports. Dr. Mary Dowling (Mangaweka) intimated her intention of acting as judge of the baby show. Mr. S. Dunbar was appointed to supervise the arrangements for afternoon tea. Mr. A. J. Joblin was appointed to take charge of the sheep guessingcompetition and arrange all details. It was decided to make the number in th e physical drill squad eight instead of six, all schools in the district are to be circularised to enter a team, whilst several from Taihape will compete. Mr. A. D. N. Train announced that he was arranging if possible for the schools’ physical instructor to act as judge. Mr. Joblin consented to canvass for advertisements for the sports programme. The stationmaster advised that the 3.50 p.m .train south would be delayed until 4.10 p.m. and that the 5.50 p.m. train north would stop at Quinn’s Booth’s, and Gardner’s Sidings. Mr. T. Wilford, M.P, advised that owing to previous engagements at Christchurch, Dunedin, Hawera, Hastings, Dannevirke. and Gisborne, he would be unable to lecture at Taihape on the 19th inst. The tender of Mr. W. Gregory to i supply logs at 3/6 and 1/6 was accepted it being the lowest, Mr. H. Bortenshaw was appointed blackboard steward.

It was unanimously decided to accept Mr. Nicholls’ offer to run the

Three Stars Pictures as a benefit for patriotic funds on Monday, 19th inst.
