THE TURKS.

ABUSES THE WHITE FLAG. Private Donald Nicholson, son of Mr. Wm. Nicholson, of Lower Hurt, writes interstingly to his father of some incidents of the Egyptian campaign. In describing the night march which was made on El Arish, Madgabah, he states that the weather was the coldest ever experienced. It was impossible to keep warm, though the men got off th e horses and walked. On arriving just at dawn at El Arish an aeroplane notified them of the evacuation of the town. Private Nicholson was one of the advance party to make the first entry into El Arish. Then follows a description of another night march with an attack at dawn. Just before the attack and while waiting for reinforcements to arrive, Private Nicholson tells of how every second man slept for a period, with the enemy in force firing at them at the distance of a few hundred yards. During the engagement the white flag was frequently abused by the enemy, Nicholson’s right-hand mate being killed and his left-hand one wounded, while ■he himself had a miraculous escape, a bullet passing through the front of his tunic, through his bandolier, in which it exploded the caps only of two cartridges, aria then passed out between his right arm and the body.
