ST. PATRICK’S DAY SPORTS.

Perhaps the most interesting events on the programme of the St. Patrick’s Day sports will be the chopping events. Considerable local interest is being displayed in the tradesmen’s chop, in which some of our leading townsmen will face the public for the first time. Good entries are being received for this event, which in itself should be worth the gale money. A request has been made to all millowners up and down the line to assist the patriotic funds on this day by closing their mills, thus releasing choppers. In this direction the millowners have been very generous in the past and there is no reason to doubt that their willingness to help a patriotic cause has waned. The open chop at the New Year’s Day was the most interesting event, and evenly contested. On St Patrick’sDay there are four chopping be contested, so the public are assured of something spectacular in this line. Intending competitors are reminded that nominations close with the secretaries, box 81, Taihape, on Tuesday next, 13th March. Handicaps will be adjusted by Mr. W. Gregory, of Taihape, who has had a long and varied experience in wroodchopping and sawing events.
