AMUSEMENTS.

ARE YOU A MASON ?

TO-NIGHT. At the Town Hall to-night the Koval Dramatic and Comedy Company present the seheaming farce comedy “Are You a Mason The same company as produced it in Wellington is offering here, and this is what a contemporary said;—The brilliant success achieved by the Koyal Dramatic and Comedy Company on Saturday evening at the Grand Opera House in “Arc You a Mason?’’ was all the more remarkable on account of the extreme versatility demonstrated by members of the combinatAn. To stop from tragedy into the lightest comedy in the course of a and to be effective in each, is infinitely to tho credit of the company. Thus was demonstrated their unusuolly fine calibre. A better reception could not have been wished for than was accorded to the company and the comedy on Saturday night. Again., there was an overflowing house, and the theatre resounded with laghte.r and applause throughout the throe octs. Tho comedy, of course, is a delightful concoction of absurdities built on the main groundwork that two of the characters pretend to be Freemasons, and are thus plunged into much trouble of their own making in attempting to keep up the deception. Tho comedy has been seen here before, and it is hardly necessary to enter into details of the plot. Those who have already enjoyed its capacity for creating mirth will lose nothing of its flavour by witnessing its admirable performance by tire present company. Those who have not should certainly not miss the comedy. It is one of the best.’’ It is seldom wo get a visit from a big metropolitan company, and it will be surprising if th e hall is not filled to its utmost capacity to-night. Seats can be booked ot Cochran’s Piano Depot.

THREE STARS

“A man is a s young as ho feels,” said Frank Keenan, the Triangle character actor in a recent interview on the ait of making up, of which he is considered among the most proficient. Wrinkles and grey hair can be successfully concealed by grease paint and dyes, but the old actor who relies solely on these means for appearing youthful is scheduled for a severe setback in his efforts. During the action of “Honour thy name,” a triangle drama of paternal devotion, now being highlv spoken of, Mr Keenan by a few short touches and a clover change of expression, makes himself look thirty years younger. This player will be remembered for his excellent work in “The Phanton Crook ’ ’ and ‘‘ The Stepping Stone. In “ Honour thy Kame” he is a proud old Southern planter, who saves thg family name by driving over a cliff with a disreputable woman, whom his son was married to during a foolish spree. Louise Glaum, Triangle’s “Vampire de Luxe” has the part of the bad woman, who stakes all on marrying into the old Virginian family, and who meets with such a tragic end. There is a well selected supporting bill, including Topical Budget, The Connecting E-'-th, Lion Cubs, Melbourne Cup, etc.
