VICTIM OF AUCKLAND FI EE AUCKLAND, February 22 Bridget O’Connor, aged 82, who was severely burned in the fire at Carlton Gore Eoad, died in the hospital this morning. AUCKLAND TEAM RUNS AWAY AUCKLAND, February 22 About minight last night a tram' going down a rather steep gradient on the Khybcr Pass Eoad, got out of control and left the rails, crashing into an alleyway between the Savings Bank and. a hotel at Newmarket. The ear con-,; tained five passengers, and all escaped, uninjured. Motorman Halley, who' stuck to his post, was cut about the face, walked to a doctor’s residence. Part of the outer wall of the hotel was torn away and part of the outer wall knocked out of the perpendicular. The private bar was completely wrecked, and some of the bedrooms overhead considerably damaged. The rooms were not occupied. The wife of the proprietor was thrown out of bed in a room at the back of the premises. A boarder who occupied another bedroom was also thrown out of bed. The bank, which was built of brick, was damaged to a slight extent, and the tramcar was badly damaged.
