HUN GAS VICTIM.
At an inquest in Manchester relative to the death of David Kerr, a Canadian, thirty-one, it was stated that he was discharged from the army in July last, after having been gassed in France. The other morning he was seized with fits, and died after terrible suffering. Mr. Howard Buck, surgeon, of the Manchester Infirmary, gave evidence as to the post-mortem examination. The case, he said, was most remarkable. Every crevice of the man’s body was filled with gas which gave off a luminous flame and was like sulphuretted hydrogen. In reply to the coroner, the witness said death was due to gangrene infection, but it was impossible to say how it occurred. There was an abrasion on the finger, and it was possible that was the point of infection. In his opinion, however, the gassing of the man in France had nothing to do with his death. The jury returned an open verdict.
