OVER OBSTACLES.

NEW TRAINING FOR SOLDIERS'.

WELLINGTON, Feb 10

In pursuance of the policy of keeping the training of New Zealand reinforcements as up to date as possible, a further new course has been introduced in the syllabus at Trentham. This takes the form of putting the men of each reinforcement over a specially designed obstacle course, with a view to improving thier agility, and thereby enabling them, when they reach the battle line, to overcome hindrances quickly, and make the most of valuable time. The course, whlc-h. is 200 yards long, is an exact replica of that provided at the latter end of last year at Staples, the big socialists’ training camp for British ana Col-

onial divisions in France. It comprises eight obstacles, all of different types, and thev take some getting over. The training started yesterday, and it is proposed in future to put the men of all reinforcements over the course two or three time a week. At a later stage cf their training such exercises are to form part of their physical instruction. A similar course is being provided at- Featherston.
