"CANNOT BE STARVED."
GERMAN CLAIMS TO BE ABLE TO HOLD OUT ON HOME SUPPLIES
I "If producers and consumers do their duty starvation by our enemies will be frustrated." This declaration was made by Herr Batocki, president of the Food Department, in a dieussion on the food question in the Reichstag. "As importation i s an especially uncertain facton," he continued, "our main task is to become independent of importation. The severe test of last year we happily overcame. This proves that we can hold out with our own supplies, though with some hardship." The Reporter, Count Wetarp (Consenvative), declared that the debate in committee had again evoked the conviction that the British starvation plan was a failure. " The German people," he said, "stands behind our brave fighters, ready and able to send them, the necessary food for their heroic fight. We arc determined and prepared to supply also oui; workmen with food, and to distribute supplies in such a way that they are sufficient. The war need not be ended one day earlier owing to the food question than is required by the military situation."
