TAIHAPE SWIMMING CLUB.
AN INTERESTING RACE,
There was a good attendance of spectators at the Municipal Baths last evening, with a sprinkling of ladies, to witness the 50 yards handicap race for Mr. Todd's Urophy. There were about 5 starters, and'the race was run in heats, each heat providing a very close finish. The final proved a fine race. Higgs, on the 5 sees mark, made a good plunge and, swimming strongly was in front at the turn, with Deacon and Nathan close up. Deacon made a fine effort half-way back in the second 25, but Higgs stalled off the challenge and wozi by about two feet from the scratch man, with Nathan close up third. The officials were: —Handicappers. Messrs Dymock, Dunkley, and Beban; Judges, A. E. Wakcman and J. I*. Aldridge; started and timekeeper, Mr. H. D. Bond. Results:—First heat, Higgs 5 sees 1; 2nd heat, McSweeney, Ssecs 1: 3rd heat, Nathan 1 sec 1; 4th heat, Deacon, scr 1. Final: Higgs, ssecs 1; Deacon, scr 2; Nathan 1 see 3. Time, 42 1-5 sees.
