WELLINGTON Monday
The High Commissioner has sent the following market cablegram from London. The quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot: Moat. —All descriptions of frozen meat continue to be in good demand, and conditions are now more satisfactory. Prices are higher for frozen meat not under Government control, owing to the expectation of supplies being retarded on account of the danger of submarines. New Zealand mutton is bringing 8 7-Bd. Butter. —The market is firmer, with a steady rising tendency. New Zealand, salted, 196/ to 198/, occasionally 200/; unsalted, 198/ to 200/, occasionally 203/. Hemp.—The market is firm, and prices continue to advance. In New Zealand hemp business is dull, there being little offering. Nominal quotations for January and March shipment are: Good, fair, £62; fair, £6O; Government graded, fair Manila, £72; coarse, £64. Wheat. —The market remains firm, owing to the absence of offerings. Australian wheat afloat is nominally worth 83/. Oats.—The market is quiet, but steady. New Zealand oats being quoted at 51/ on spot.
