There were A.o in attendance a large number of visitors from Taihape and district, as v;ell as a full representation of the Ruanui staff. Reminiscent speecaos of the (day when Ruanui was the only setilej ment in the district were made. The outlet for Die station then ves Nnpiw. via Moawhango. This was tmme thirty years ago, before Tatlutr.e was thought of. Many toasts and felicitous speeches were made, the tenor of all
being the cordial relations which have always existed between the staff and management of Ruanui. Both Messrs Studholme and Forde have had the rare quality of tact, and dealings with their staff and with other business people have always been cn the most friendly terms. Ruanui in the past has been aptly described as the “Hal: Way House;” where a stranger was no longer a stranger once he entered the | gates. During the evening Mr. Forde was presented by the staff with a solid silver cigarette case as a slight token of the esteem in which lie was held by 1 his men. j Toasts were proposed and responcled to during the evening. The good | work in patriotic and other directions i rendered by Mrs.' J. F. Studholme, I Mrs. Forde, and Misses Forde was not ! forgotten, and was the subject of frei quent encomiums. Toasts: “The 'King,” (Mr. McMahon). “Army and | Navy” (Mr. Studholme —Hon. A. K. j Young), “Late Manager” (Mr. S. Sanways—Mr. Forde), “Our Boys” (Mr. Geogohan—Mr. J. Evans), “New Owxi--1 er” (Mr. J. F. Studholme—Mr. Hlb(herd for owner), “Visitors” (Mr. M. Wilson —Mr. C. Kelly), “Ladies” (Mr. Bremner —Mr. W. J. Monro). During the evening songs and recitations were contributed by Messrs R. Stevens, E. Etevens, Caddie, Bubb, Geogahan, R. Donald, P. Troy, and D. Aitcheson. the accompaniments being capably played by Mr. W. Lang. Mr. J. F. Studholme intends residing on the homested until the end of the war, after which he goes home to England to subsequently return to New Zealand.
