ROSEBUD COMPETITION.
Wednesday, Jan 31. Womens Working Club Shop, sale of vegetables, cakes, sweets, etc. Railway Rosebud. Thursday, Feb. I.—Social and Dance, Q'Connor 's Hall, Rosebud May Demiess. Thursday, Feb I.—Euchre party, Mrs. J. Gilchrist’s residence, Ftiku. Utlku Rosebud. Thursday, Feb 1.-Dance, Moawhango. Rosebud Hekenui. Friday, Feb 2.—Euchre party and dance, Railway Social Hall. Railway Rosebud. A waltzing competition will also be held. Entries close at 9.30. Saturday, Feb. 3 Paddy’s Market, O'Connor’s Hall, winding-up ceremony, all candidates. To-morrow evening a social ana dance will be held in O’Connor’s Hall. Cards will also be on the table Hi these who do not dance. The committee of the Utiku Rosebud are holding a euchre party at Mr. J. Gilcluist s residence to-morrow evening. The supporters of Rosebud Hekenui are holding a dance at Moawhango tomorrow evening, when a large attendance is expected. The positions of the candidates after Tuesday’s count was as follows: Peggy May, Mataroa 1; Mary O’BTien, Railway, 2; Marianna Hekenui, Native, 3; Jean Campbell, Ohutu, 4; Jean Gilchrist ITtiku 5. The Railway committee are sellingiced drinks at Paddy’s Market on Saturday, and intend also to hold a mod court, when women policemen will act for the first time. The organisers met yesterday, and made final arrangements for the Paddy’s Market. It was decided that the voting close at 11 p.m. on Saturday night, no money will be received after that time, and the door of the treasurer and returning officers’s room will be locked after the first stroke of the hour, and as soon as posible aiderwards the final count will be made, and announced to the public. The art
unions will be drawn at 10.30 p.m. in the presence of Sergeant Matthews.
After the final count the trophy presented hy R. W. Smith, for the Rosebud securing most votes, will be publicly presented by His Worship the Mayor, Mr. A. L. Arrowsmith. The organisers decided that it would save expense both to the parents of Rosebuds and the community generally by eliminating any elaborate ceremony, and with this end in view it was decided to close the competition as stated above.
During the evening half-hourly results will be supplied to the public, and committees of Rosebuds are required to hand in their cash to the treasure' at Paddy’s Market office fiiteen minutes before every hour and half-hour.
