SUNDAY PICTURES

I [ Sir. —I have read with interest the letters of ‘‘'Worker,'’ “Ratepayer." and the humourous writer “W. Wowser." re Sunday j Pictures, but I regret exceedingly that from a church viewpoint the matter lias not boon taken up bv someone r.u.re capable than myself. In the first place we arc commanded to keep holy the Sunday, and what better means of doing this can bo found than bv attending evening service. The local clevgv have long been loud in their complaint i regarding the sparse attendances at | -Sunday's devotions, and without doubt the pictures are mainly responsible for | such small numbers making their ap- | pcaranco at the Church. Furthermore j TVe have pictures on six nights of the . week; surely the appetites of the most ardent picture-goers can be appeased "without devoting the only remaining I night in the week to sitting out a programme. In my -u ruble opinion picture shows should bo blocked absoj Intel} on Sunday even inns; also on two or three other nights in the week. During these times our mere hours could be put to some good purpose, and we certain!} could spend our small money to much better advantage. Why not practice a little self-denial and put the few shillings to the Rod Cross needs or to the Church for the furtherance of Church matters. “W. Owscr" sarcastically hints that the ratepayers will have an opportunity when rest council election date arrives, of ousting out the borough representatives who supported the motion to cancel Sunday evening picture permits. Quite so. Our councillors can tost assured that their action in doing away with this great evil has been endorsed by a larger percentage of townspeople than the correspondence of ‘ ‘ 'Worker," “ Ratepayer, ’ ’ and ‘•' W. Owson" would lead one to believe. I am, etc.,CHURCHMAN.
