FIGHTING IN FLANDERS
BRITISH SUCCESSES. LONDON, Jan 24. Sir Douglas Haig reports: The enemy attempted a raid to the southwestward of Loos, but were easily beaten off and left a number of dead and wounded. We drove back a party southwards jof Hulluch. We raided trenches south-east of Ypres and bombarded trenches southeastward of Souc-hes with good results. Ihiring air fighting six German aeroplanes were destroyed and three driven down and damaged. One of ours was brought down and two are missing. FRENCH SUCCESSES. LONDON. Jan 25. A French communique says: We used destructive artillery fire against the enemy in the region of MoulinsSoustcuvent, north-east of Hill 304. There is an appreciably violent artillery struggle in the sector at Caurieresuwood. T : FRENCH REPORT. LONDON, Jan 24. A French communique: We made several successful coups de main south of Chilly 7 on the Somme, near Regneville and the Woevre. Allied aircraft were successfully busy. FORMIDABLE GERMAN OFFENSIVE. IN A MONTH OR SIX WEEKS. CO-OPERATION OF SUBMARINES AND FLEET. TO CUT BRITAIN’S VITAL RESOURCES. Received 9.45. AMSTERDAM, Jan 25. The Berlin correspondent of “Tyd,” who is often exceedingly well informed, asserts that the last round of the conflict, beginning with the new submarine campaign, supported by the German fleet, will be inaugurated to cut off England’s vital resources. There will be only sufficient fighting on the Eastern front to preserve the status quo. Austria will soon settle with Italy after the fashion of Roumaima. Germany seeks a decision in the West, where operations of a formidable character will commence in a month or six -weeks.
