A PRISONER ESCAPES.
- TE AWAMUTU, Jan. 9. To the alarming list of escapes from the Waikeria Prison Reformatory has to be added that of an habitual criminal named Herbert Hilni, alias Stewart. Hilm was seen working on the farm the previous afternoon, and his escape was not noticed until the following morning. An active search was immediately undertaken by the police, but th e prisoner has not, so far, been located. The surrounding country affords good cover: so much so that one prisoner who succeeded in escaping out f of the district reached Wellington, where he was re-taken a month later.
