BATHING FATALITY AT SUMNER.

CHRISTCHURCH. December IS Shortly after 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon a youth named Leo Dobbs, of Salisbury Street when swimming off the pier at Sumner, was seen to disappear. The crowd of holiday-makers gave the alarm, and a constable and members of the lifeboat crew went out in a dinghy with grapples and drags, but could not get the bod}'. The lad was bathing in a dangerous spot, near the bar, where there is a strong tidal rip at low water.
