CHILDREN'S DAY
EXHIBITION OF SWEDISH DRILL.
Favoured with fine weather yesterday, the exhibition of Swedish Drill ay the pupils of the Taihape District High School was a complete success. A procession was formed at The School, and. headed by the Taihape Band and the Cadets, marched through the town. The procession, composed of children in white dresses and fancy costumes, looked very attractive. Some of the costumes were decidedly taking, the ones to stand out most prominently were "Monkey" (Master L. Oldham), the get-up being- very good; "Boy of the Georgian, period (Master Peyton); Fairies, Misses Edlin; two Charlie Chaplins (Masters Fleet and Pitt); Japanese Girl, Violet B'ason. There were also several other effective costumes, the names of the wearers of which we were unable to obtain. On arrival at die Oval, the scholars wer? formed in their various classes and put through the evolutions o'' Swedish drill with a vim and regularity which was quite remarkable, evincing- much painstaking preparation !r----their instructors. After the drill, the children were grouped, and sang "Cod Save the King." During the afternoon tea, was dispensed by the ladies, assisted by the senior pupils. The children ail appeared to enjoy themselves thoroughly judging from their happy faces, and the only regrettable feature noticed was the absence of parents from the function.
