TAIHAPE S.M. COURT

At the sitting of the S.M. Court yesterday, a first offender, for drunkenness, was convicted and discharged. Charged with having permitted stock to wander Mr. F. W. Tyson was fined 7/6. J. Quinlinan, charged with cruelty to a cow, at Winiata, on 31st October last, was convicted and fined £2 10s. N. Denness and W. Milne, charged with selling light-weight bread, a case twice previously adjourned for the attendance of an important witness, were convicted, and each was fined £ls. The Magistrate remarked that it was improper for tradesmen, at a time like this, when the highest prices were being charged for necessaries of life, to sell bread short of what people paid for. W. Kuhtze, for failing to, send his child tc school, was fined 10/. George Pohi, in a similar case plead ed that he could not control the child. He was making arrangements to send the boy to college. He was fined 5/. Michael Byrne, butcher, was charg- 1 ed by Mr. E. Gohns, Inspector of Fac- j tories, with not having closed his shop on the usual weekly half-holiday, inasmuch as he retailed meat from his delivery cart in Taihape. A plea cl guilty was made and the defendant in formed the Court that the practice had been discontinued. He was fined ! 10/. Mrs. F. A. C. Clark applied for an or- i der for separation and maintenance | from Alfred J. Clarke. The order was | granted, 20s per week being allowed | the applicant. Lilian Peters asked for an order for | separation and maintenance from Kar j old D. Peters. The order was made, [ the alimony being fixed at 25/ per ] week.

An assault case, A. T. Hagger v. M. Bennett, was called on, but as the complainant did not put in an appearance the charge was dismissed with costs—witnesses, £1 10s; solicitor, £1 Is.

Horton Bros., a claim for £6 16s Id, was adjourned to the IStli January.
