MILITARY SERVICE ACT.
THE BALLOT FOR RECRUITS. FAMILY MEN DRAWN. SINGLE MEN STILL AVAILABLE. RESENTMENT IN MASTERTON. MASTERTON, this day. There is a good deal of indignation locally that men who were married previous to May, 1915, are put in the ballot with the first division. A local man who has been married several years, and who has one child, was yesterday drawn in the ballot. There is great resentment at the possibility that married men with families may be called up while so many single men without dependents are available in the district. THE FIRST BALLOT. WELLINGTON. Nov 17. The ballot for men to complete the drafts for the 23rd and 24th Reinforcements continued all day ,to-day, and goes on to-morrow. About a hundred names are still required to be drawn to fill the vacancies in the quotas from South Canterbury, North Canterbury, North Otago and Poverty Bay.
