BALLOT FOR REINFORCEMENTS.
WAS COMMENCED THIS MORNING. TO FILL SHORTAGE IN REINFORCEMENTS. WELLINGTON, this day. At a meeting of the ExecutiveCouncil yesterday an Order-in-Councll as required by section 32 - sub-sec-tion (7) of the Military Service Act, was passed, empowering the Minister of Defence to issue a warrant authorising the Commandant of the Defence Forces to call up from the firstdivision of the reserve for service with the expeditionary force a sufficient number of reservists to make good the shortages which have been found to exist in the 23rd and 24th reinforcements. Pursuant to this authority the Commandant has directecf the Government Statistician to callup sufficient reservists to make good the shortages, and to allow a margin for men found to be medically unfit, an<Sfor men who are exempted ou appeal, A start was made with the ballot at nine o’clock this (Thursday- morning. No reservists will be called up bjHallot for recruiting districts No. 5, Auckland City; No. 7, Hawke's Bay-' No 12, Nelson; and No. 20, Wanganui*
