VALEDICTORY.
A PRESBYTERIAN PRESENTATION The Taihape Presbyterian community met on Tuesday evening 4o give a social to Mr. and Mrs. W. Morton, who are leaving Taihape. The hall was nicely decorated and arranged for the occasion by the ladies. Mr. D. Scott was in the chair. ■He spoke of the good work done in connection with the church by the guests of the evening. Mr. Morton, he said, had come among them in a quiet, unobtrusive way, but it was not long before he had proved his worth as a worker in various capacities in the church. They had not seen so much of Mrs. Morton, but, having a young family, she was none the less doing .the work of a home missionary in her own home. 1 They regretted losing them, but recognised that they were going to a larger sphere of usefulness. He concluded by wishing Mr. Morton Godspeed in his work as Home Missionary at B'uils. Mr. A. Spence, who had been closely associated with Mr. Mor-. ton in the work of the Sunday school, fully endorsed the remarks of the chairman, and expressed great pleasure in presenting to Mr. Morton, on behalf of the congregation “Hastings’ Dictionary of the Bible,” as a slight token of their esteem and their appreciation of his work among them. Mr. Morton, in accepting the gift, said he felt it difficult to find words to express his thanks for this mark of their kindness. The Book would be very helpful to him in his work. He emphasised the pleasure he experienced in working amongst the young in tne Sunday school. He concluded by again thanking all for their great kind ness. A fine musical programme, interspersed with recitations and competitions, was rendered by the following ladies and gentlemen, practically all of whom received an imperative recall: Mrs Peyton, pianoforte solo;' Miss Boyne, monologue. Songs: Miss McKinnon, Mrs. Mortland. Messrs Dinnison. Morton and Wham: Duet, piano and flute, Mrs. Peyton and Mr. Do Latour; Recitation, Mr. Scott and Mr. - Votes of thanks were carried by acclamations as follows: A special vote of thanks to Mrs. Peyton who played all the accompan*ments in her usual able manner; *o the ladies and gentlemen who contributed to the programme; and to the ladies for decorating the hall and providing a bountiful supper.
