MILITARY MEDICAL BOARDS. "FAMILY SHIRKERS" SECTION. Further definite steps have been taken towards the enforcement of the Military Service Act passed by Parliament last session. Under the Act i four Medical Boards have been appointed for the purpose of examining Reservists calld up for service. Their constitution is as follows: The Auckland District.—Dr. Fox (Christchurch) and Dr. Sprott (Marton). Wellington District.—Major P. A. Lindsay (Auckland) and Dr. Jennings (Christchurch). Canterbury District. —Major J. Fitzgerald (Dunedin). Otago District. — Lieutenant-Colonel P. R. Cook (late of the Marama) and Major H. H. Barcroft (Wellington). The Wellington and Canterbury .Boards were to have sat at PalmersJon this week for the purpose of examining men under section 35. The Auckland and Otago Boards will also sit this week. Notices are still being sent out daily under section 35, populany ' known as "the Family Shirkers' Section,' 'and over 1500 of these have now been distributed. Up to the present time the total number of men in New Zealand who have been granted exemption from military service on the ground of employment in some indispensable industry is 496. The greater number of men so exempted will have their cases reconsidered at the beginning of next year, as exemption is only granted till the end of the present year.
