NEW ZEALAND MINISTERS.
LONDON, Nov 9. Sir Joseph Ward, in proposing the Hon. R. McKenna 's health at an Empire Parliamentary function, thanked him for the consideration shown to New Zealand. Mr Massay presided at the anniversary in connection with the Salvation Army Women's social work. SPEECH BY SIR JOSEPH WARD. LONDON, Nov 0. The Executive of the Imperial Air Fleet Committee banquetted Sir Joseph Ward at the Bath Club. Mr Massey and Sir Thos. Mackenzie were present. ' Sir Joseph Ward, responding to the toast of his health spoke of the marvellous evolution of aviation during the past three years. The people were impressed with what the Imperial Air Committee had done to create interest in flying. Britons must make up their minds that no combination of powers could outvie them on sea or land or in the air. Sir Joseph was strongly impressed by the necessity for responsible ministers to visit overseas and thus help the Empire defence. It would be a great blunder to wait until peace came before we made up our minds what was going to be done in regard to trade matters. We must resolve that the Empire can be made more self-contained and self-reliant that hitherto.
