YOUR FRUIT TREE.

Every person owning even one fruit tree is notified that in accordance with the law' that tree must be registered not later than October 26 (next Thursday), at least application for a form of registration must be applied for before that date. The object is to prevent .persons leaving fruit trees in a state of disease, that are a menace to the whole fruit crop of the surrounding ciauntiry. To leave one apple tree a free breeding ground for the propagation of the codlin moth, for instance, is to constitute a nuisance, annoyance,

and a source of loss to everybody having apples in the neighbourhood. There is nothing to pay fon registration, all the Government desires is to know where fruit trees are, so that assistance and advice may be given that will prevent loss to other people. It is hoped that the public will readily assist in tjjis good work by applying fon registration papers promptly. In the case of orchards in which fruit is grown for commercial purposes it is different. All orchards must be registered and a tax of one shilling per acre paid, the minimum tax being half-a-crown. This tax was payable on September 30. Readers arc referred to a notification on page one of this issue.
