ANOTHER MAORI GIFT.
MONUMENT TO THE KILLED. At the recent meeting of the Tuwharetoa Natives, when 25.300 acres of land was given to the Government on which to settle returned soldiers, the Tuwharetoas also gave the Hon Dr. Pomare a sum of about £BOO lying to their credit with the Public Trustee, as a donation towards erecting a monument in Wellington to the memory of Maori soldiers who are killer* in action, or otherwise fallen by the war. It was arranged that Mr. Ngata, Tare Parata, and Tau Henare be asked to confer with their people with a view to bringing the amount up to about £2OOO, or more if necessary, to secure a monument executed in the highest art style. The Maoris would like their Memorial to be erected in front of Parliament Buildings.
