THE WHINING HUN AGAIN.
Once more the French. Government is at grips with the German military authorities concerning the under-feeding of French prisoners of war. The bread ration of these unfortunates having been reduced to 800 grammesi (about lOozs), complaint has been made to> Germany, supplemented by a demand that the daily allowance be raised to 600 grammes, this being equivalent to the ration served out to the Teuton prisoners. Germany’s reply is distinctly characteristic, if somewhat weak, coming,as it does from a Power which after the Jutland scrap, boasted that it was now mistress of the seas_ "Prevail ( upon England to lift her blockade,” whined the Note. "We shall then be able to feed our captives as you desire. If these arc at present suffering, Great Britain alone is responsible. ’ ’ This does not at all ally with Chancellor Bethmann - Hollweg's Reichstag statement that the British blockade was a joke. Meanwhile the French authorities are advising parents and friends of French prisoners to send the the latter bread.
