THE MATRIMONIAL SLACKERS

With matrimony a dead letter, the girls and young women of Fort Scott, Kansas, aided by leap year, have organised a leap year club, whose purpose will be to educate the men regarding advantages of matrimony and encourage proposals. The following indictment of eligible men was adopted unanimously by debutantes, and a few older girls: "We want it understood that in the first place we don't know any young men in this town we could care to marry. We will not take any Leap Year proceedings against the delinquent, indifferent and inert young males of our city, because the majority of them are not going with any one at all. Marriages have become infrequent among our first families, due to the inertia of the young bachelors. These would rather stand down town on the street corners and discuss a prize fight than perform their social duties. They are fond of coca colas, victrola music, pool games, and moving picture shows, because they are not costly when enoyed alone. They hold male line parties at the movies and glory in the shame of being stingy. They are tightwads. No fjowers, no candy, w no toothin'," They are not even entertaining when captured, being evidently under severe nervous strain for fear that they may be kissed or otherwise maltreated. These Spineless Apologies have not taken to sleighing, skating, nor even roller skating. We have not seen the inside of the new municipal rink since the first night it was opened. Finally, Leap Year, does no good, for the young men have taken an oath that they will turn down any girl that proposes." The young women expect the movie managers to come to their aid, as they have served notice that no members of the club will patronise a movie until provided with a male escort of marriageable age.
