WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 1916. I.W.W. TRAITORS.

AND WAIMAEINO ADVOCATE (With which is incorporated The Tal hapt» Post and Waimarino News.)

It is becoming more evident that ■Germany paid more attention to preparing Australasia for this great war than was believed by most people Outbursts against the war policy of Australia, and also against that of Hew Zealand, have occurred from time to time. There were the rabid opposers of the adoption of the only system left to us of providing the x men and still more men the late Lord Kitchener impressed upon the Empire were necessary, even in Australasian Parliaments. It is now discovered that German money has been pouring into. Australasia, to be used in fomenting" disloyalty among the people and a disregard of law. Tools of the apostles of might against right are found chiefly among the ranks of labour. Miserable specimens of men, with British names, assumed or otherwise, have been sent to Australasia with German gold to per* j form acts of treachery of the most degrading and abasing character. By such acts Germany’s lie that she is fighting for the uplifting of mankind, is flung back into her teeth. But what can be thought of the men with British names who are either the direct tools of Germany, or who are the knaves or fools of these hun 'emissaries? Such men have forfeited their right to live, and w r hen taken they should be treated as common spies, for, if it is possible, the wretched sacrifice of all that separates man from the lower animal, has rendered them infinitly more dangerous than the ordinary spy. They are traitors of the

worst type. These loathesome things have fastened themselves on to labour organisations; they issue publications in the name of British workmen, while undermining all that the Britisli workmen hold most dear and sacred, they have wormed a way by subtle and sinuous methods into the favour of labour; they become the most strenuous in'sS* curing something that labour is entitled to, merely to sow the seeds of treachery, sedition, and contempt for thculawis. of; a country which have placed labtmr head and shoulders above labour in any other part of the world. We know that the old feudal spirit has still some influence in the present day social status, but this is fast being (eliminated, and all classes of our people are coming by their own. Labour, or, we would say, the larger section of our people, have the power to effect just and reasonable reforms, but this section is foolishly or unwittingly throwing its cause back indefinitely by the rank-splitting it is welcoming from these paid minions of Germany; the traitorous vipers with British names, that are taking Hun money to work

the will of Germany, even to labour’s enslavement and reducing the sacredness of labour’s home to the Hun level, as evidenced wherever those descendants Attila have set the foot of lordship. Some of these loathsome, detestable slimy tools of Germany have been arrested in Australia. They are members of a foreign organisation of workers, the 1.W.W.; their lairs have been searched and their status has been established from papers and incriminating documents, and they are now awaiting trial. Such men are spies of the worst kind, pure and simple, and they should receive the punishment of spies. They have come amongst us to work death a«nd destruction; they have fastened upon labour out of no liking for, or compliment, but because they considered labour organisations the most plastic, ready and easy tools. They care not so long as they pocket the Hun money what wreckage they cause and leave behind in the ranks and homes of our working people. They are traitors of the blackest type, and

there is no worse name in the British language that can be given to any man than “ Traitor.” It is to be supremely hoped that New Zealand’s labour organisations will keep very close observations of the I.W.W. proselytisers who may be doing their deadly work amongst our people. We want no members of German labour concerns to tell us what to do in any circumstances,

and yet it is amazing to see the number of intelligent labour leaders Avho appear to have fallen to I.W.W.- help, and we are convinced that we are correct in saying that the failures and setbacks of the last few years in labour’s onward march : to its legitimate realm, are the result of I.W.W. methods and infuenee. In recent years some of labour’s moves have been strongly tinc-

tured with, the spirit and methods the Kaiser has now under adoption for securing German ■ control of the world, and it is this that has caused some setback to labour, as it will certainly cause a set-back to Germany, from which she may never recover. The organisation of labour in accordance with the understanding of British justice and fair play is necessary for working out the destiny of this as well as other countries comprising the British Empire, but the I.W.W. element must be entirely deleted or rendered innocuous, or the development will be on German linos rather than on British. Experience of the past leaves us without any doubt, about which the world will applaud and which it will seek to kill, and will eventually destroy. So long as there are I.W.W. men in the pay of Germany kept at work amongst our labour organisations the war is not ■won.
