Buyers are in a quandary as to the whole situation, and the violent fluctuations recently experienced do not inspire confidencein the trade. Current prices are: Butter, 154/ to 170/ per cwt., unsalted, 168/ to 170/; cheesfe, white, 88/ to 91/ per cwt., coloured, 8/ to 89/ per cwt. Trade during the past week or two has been rather slow, and this week owing to the extremely hot wmathe? the demand has dropped right off. but a’s the quantities of New Zealand mutton and lamb released have been very restricted, the requirements of the ti’ade have not been fully met, and Plate” lambs have consequently advanced about a 4d. per lb. j The demand for frozen beef has not been very good, and this is not surprising in view of the fact that all frozen beef good enough for Army requirements is used for that purpose, and only thin squibbly and very second rate beef, including bulls and very plain cows, is available for ordinary purposes. Beef of this description has met a slow sale at prices slightly especially for fore quarters), than those ruling a fortnight ago.
