TAOROA NOTES.
INTERESTING HOOKEY MATCH. Two very interesting hockey matches were played at Taoroa on Saturday, when the Taoroa Ladies’ Club playec the team selected from the men of 9 that district. The men wore skirts, and this at times made the fun furious more especially as falling rain made the garments more than ordinarily clingy, causing their wearers to perform many graceful (?) acrobatic
feats. The ladies did not win, but it was nothing to their discredit, as the circus-like tumbling of their opponents did good service in securing victory by convulsing the ladies with laughter. The scores were: Ladies, 2; Men, 4, so the losers were not badly beaten. The gentlemen brave enough to face the ladies were, Messrs Smith, Belk, Dixon, Thomasen, Foot, Heron, Lowrie, Collins, and two Gordons. Miss Gordon’s capable refereeing earned her the thanks of both teams.
Another interesting game was played on Thursday, when Mokai res;cen:s played against the Taoroa ladies. The girls played with their usual dash and brilliancy, which wen the game ror them, the scores being, Taoroa, 1; Mokai. nil. Mr H. Smith kindly acted as referee On both occasions afternoon tea wan provided by the local club. The Mokai players were: Mrs Fullerton Smith, Mrs White, Misses Tate, Brough and Aubrey, and Messrs V'. Smith, Fullerton Smith, Hopkins and MeCardiii.
