THE QUALITY OF MERCY.
Charles George Corby, a fitter, whose former residence had been destroyed by a Zeppelin, was charged at the West London Police Court with stealing goods to the value of £4O, the property of Samuel Pearce, actor, of Lattice St.. Fulham. Prisoner had occupied the lower part of the premises, and while Pearce was in America he had taken the artiles and pawned them. He had made full restitution since the prosecutor’s return, and said that he never had the slightest intention of stealing. He was pressed for money owing to the illnes of his wife and children, and had pledged the articles, fully intending to redeem them at the first oportunity. la dismissing the ease the magistrate said, ‘"You arc mere to be pitied than blamed. ’ ’
